Preview for Fall Classes
The Fall session at Riviera UCC will include a Book Group. Because not everyone has the time to read a book every week, we’re providing a partial book list now for reading ahead.
The following books will be the basis for discussion in the first four classes. Each class will include time for your input about other books with similar topics or by the same author.
The fun is in the discussion!
Oct. 3: The Sunday Philosophy Club, by Alexander McCall Smith (2004). The first in his Isabel Dalhousie series. ~250 pp. [Filed under M for McCall Smith, sometimes in the Fiction section, sometimes in the Mystery section.] FICTION / MYSTERY.
Oct. 10: Making Rounds with Oscar, by David Dosa, M.D. (2010). ~230 pp. [362.1756 Dos] NONFICTION.
Oct. 17: Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight: An African Childhood, by Alexandra Fuller (2001). 300 pp. A personal narrative. [968.9104 Ful ] HISTORY/AUTOBIOGRAPHY.
Oct. 24: Last Train to Paradise: Henry Flagler and the spectacular rise and fall of the railroad that crossed an ocean, by Les Standiford (2002). 259 pp. [Fla 395.09759 Sta]. NONFICTION/ HISTORY.
Our Brevard Library System has multiple copies of each selection listed. Note that some of them are also available as e-books, audio books, or large print books.
A suggestion for reading ahead: As you read, flag noteworthy passages with post-it notes. Before returning the book to the library, jot down (or type) some notes from places you’ve flagged and bring those reminder notes to class.
